Baldwin & Francis
Baldwin and Francis have been powering hazardous environments for over a century. We are known throughout the world for the quality of our electrical equipment.
About Baldwin & Francis
Baldwin & Francis has been a trusted name in electrical engineering since 1919, earning a reputation for safety, reliability, and innovation that still drives us today.
Our story began when Harold Baldwin founded the Baldwin Electrical Co. in Sheffield. A strategic partnership with mining switchgear specialists Wilfred Francis & Co. Ltd led to a major contract to manufacture and supply high‑quality electrical switchgear across the UK’s growing industrial sectors. As our products became widely used in collieries, especially our early flameproof switchgear—the Baldwin and Francis names quickly became synonymous with protection, durability, and engineering excellence.
When the opportunity arose to form a full partnership, Harold Baldwin ensured that both legacies were preserved, giving rise to the name Baldwin & Francis. Our switchgear rapidly became the “preferred choice” for mining operators because it delivered what mattered most: uncompromising safety, exceptional reliability, and long-term performance in the harshest environments.
Today, we carry that same commitment into the modern world supporting industries worldwide with engineered solutions that protect people, assets, and operations.
Baldwin & Francis is proud to be part of the iDESo Group, a family of engineering and manufacturing companies dedicated to advancing electrical infrastructure, ensuring system resilience, and providing innovative, customer‑focused solutions.
Being part of the Group strengthens our capability, expands our technical expertise, and ensures we continue to deliver high‑performance switchgear solutions for modern industries worldwide.
